Thanks for your interest in my Games of Thrones Scotch - a project featuring a series of specially crafted presentation and packaging materials complementing the limited edition Games of Thrones Scotch bottles.

 

It’s a very special project for me, and took all my skill and experience at 3D Buckskin sculpting and pushed them to even greater heights. As a craftsman, this challenge was a fun and welcome one, and I’ve strived to make my work show it. I hope you agree and that you experience a certain measure of that fun and challenge through the pictures below - or the products themselves should you choose to purchase one (or more!).

The Process:

Everything begins with the careful selection of brain-tanned buckskin hides, the only kind of leather suited for the task. Still completely handmade today according to traditions unchanged for millenia, brain-tanned buckskin is some of the best quality leather available.

 

The tube is wrapped with a piece of buckskin, and a map of the general lands of the house represented by the bottle is burned into the piece. This wrap is permanent - laced to the bottom of the tube with more buckskin via holes drilled through the tube itself.

 

Next, the house sigil is painstakingly recreated using as many pieces of buckskin as is required to achieve a high standard of accuracy - resulting in a sculpt formed from multiple pieces of buckskin burned and shaped into a 3D relief.

 

The original label receives the same treatment, artistically recreated in buckskin, the details gilded with gold mica dust applied with a primitive bone tool.

 

My own maker’s mark - the CaveGeek “Cave Art Handprint” logo in red ochre - is applied to the piece only if everything meets the high standard of quality my customers have come to expect of my work, and then the final embellishments are applied: A Game of Thrones banner going down the length of the tube’s rear, punctuated by the house sigil.

 

Every single step -from the selection and cutting of hides all the way to final assembly of each tube- is performed by myself, all by hand, in my workshop.

***IMPORTANT NOTE ON BUCKSKIN***

While buckskin is an incredibly high quality leather and all pieces are made to last a lifetime (with proper care), there are a few important notes to consider:

 

• Buckskin is VERY soft. Force should not be applied to the surface of the tube or it WILL warp the 3D sculpts and the surface of the buckskin itself. This is why bottles will be shipped separately from the tubes, to reduce weight and pressure.

• As part of the tanning process, the hides are smoked for an extended period of time. This imparts the hides their golden yellow color as well as a STRONG smoky aroma. This aroma does NOT dissipate quickly, and may be too strong for some people. Others may find that the smoky aroma complements the characteristics expected of a quality scotch. Keeping the tube in a closed cabinet, or display box, will contain the aroma.

• Buckskin is NOT waterproof and should be kept dry at all times.
   

The Lantern Display Boxes:

In the photos of the individual bottles you'll see a picture of each in a lit-up lantern display box. This is an initial concept, and some changes will be made to the final design, for better lighting. The cost of the lantern boxes is +/- $70 plus shipping, and will be made to order.

***WARRANTY***
These bottles are hand made works of art. Treat them as such. Be gentle and careful with them. Buckskin is an organic material and should be kept in a dry environment at all times. Keep away from children, pets, and direct sunlight.

I offer a 5 year warranty on the craftsmanship itself. If the art was kept under the conditions specified above, and somehow deteriorated due to a defect in craftsmanship, I will repair or replace it at no cost.
